The Ford Mustang is the second oldest nameplate still in production after the F-Series pickup truck. Unlike the Ford falson, the F-Series has seen major nameplate changes since its humble beginnings.
Did you know that the Ford Mustang was Ford Motor Company's most successful launch ever since the Model A.[2]
Who created the Ford Mustang original car?
There is controvercy as to who first suggested the name for the Mustang. Some say its was John Najjar the executive stylist and a fan of World War 2 P-51 Mustang fighters. Others say it could have been the Ford Division market research manager, Robert J. Eggert, who was a breeder of quarterhorses.
The American "pony car" was created with the advent of the Mustang. The car had a sporty look, a coupe with its long hoods and short rear decks that soon other car manufacturers such as General Motors's Chevrolet Camaro, ,[9] AMC's Javelin,[10] and Chrysler's revamped Plymouth Barracuda.[11] started to compete with it.
Soon other coupes such as Celica by Toyota and the Ford Capri where seen in the American market.
The Ford Mustang is the only pony class car that has not seen any distruption in manufacturing for over forty years.
Some of the old model Ford Mustang are:
The base model in the Ford Mustang has a manual transmission with rear whell drive drive train.
The Ford Mustang started to see designs which were larger and heavier than the original 1664 model until fans of the Mustang urged Ford Company to have the Mustang be returned to its original cocept of 1964.
Various Generations of Ford Mustangs:
The First Generation Mustangs- 1964 1/2 to 1973: In 1964 the first Ford Mustang come out of production in record time of 18 months from conception by the then Ford general manager, Lee Iacocca who was also actiong as the head engineer of the Ford Mustang project. The original concept of the Ford Mustang was that of a two seater roadster with a mid mounted engine type, the Taurus V4 engine from Ford Germany and the model was very similar to the later Pontiac Fiero.
Due to poor sales in the older 2 seater 1955 T-Bird by Ford Motor Company, Ford decided to remodel the Ford Mustang car into a four-seat which went on to win the winning design in an intramural design contest instigated by the Ford's GM, Iacocca.
The Ford Mustang was designed with women in mind- a car that appealed to women as well had men attracted to it.
Here is an extract of the early days of the mustang.... "To cut down the development cost and achieve a suggested retail price of US$ 2,368, the Mustang was based heavily on familiar yet simple components. Much of the chassis, suspension, and drivetrain components were derived from the Ford Falcon and Ford Fairlane (North American). Favorable publicity articles appeared in 2,600 newspapers the next morning, the day the car was "officially" revealed.[18][19] A Mustang also appeared in the James Bond film Goldfinger in September 1964, the first time the car was used in a movie.[20]" Click here for more information
More than a million Mustangs were sold in the first 18 months, ten times what was expected for that period in 1964. The car was a success.

Old Mustangs:
The Ford Mustang is an automotive legend with over four decades of pavements under its wheels collectively. American automotive performance is judged by many against the Ford Mustang. It also symbolise youth, Friday night crusing and the openness of the road. It's been loved all over the world and the question is why?
Ford's GM wanted a motor car that appeal to women as well as men. The car that became known as the Mustang was designed with long sweeping bonnet and a high mounted grill with a center mounted Mustang as its centerpiece. The car featured air-intakes in front of the rear wheels. The Mustang took the chassis, suspension and drivetrain components from the Ford Falcon.
Though the car was a high quality car as the Falcon it was still cheap to produce. Though the Ford Falcon and the Mustang did share many similar parts, the Mustang has lower positioned seats, slightly shorter wheel base but looks completely different from the outside. It certainly had a lower ride height as well.
The Ford Mustang has seen quite a few Mustang generations over the last forty years. Each generation has a completely overall ground up change in design. Inspite of numerous body style changes over the years , Ford says that the Mustang has seen only 5 total ground up redesigns since it first started in production.
